Stand By Me (1986)

‘Stand By Me’ is the perfect coming-of-age film from the 1980s. Adapted from a short story written by Stephen King, ‘Stand By Me’ stands on its own as a touching portrait of friendship and youth.

I saw it for the first time when I was probably eleven or twelve. I found the film intriguing from the beginning and I don’t know why. Perhaps it was the combination of nostalgia and friendship. At this time, I had been a middle-school student and I similarly formed a close friendship with a few friends that mirrored the dynamic between Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern. The memories that it conjures takes me back to those innocent years and the fun that we had. It’s a personal connection that has stuck with me nearly ten years later.

I am currently a student at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. This blog will be used for a course that I am taking titled, Communication Technology and Social Change. For this assignment, I have chosen to select 25 American films that I find most compelling or personally meaningful.
